Life Groups | Sermon Guide

focusing on the Word & sharing life in response to Jesus

Malachi is the final prophetic voice before 400 years of silence. Through six disputes, God calls His people to return to covenant faithfulness. We are challenged to examine our worship, relationships, stewardship, and hope in God’s promises.

Return to His Worship

Malachi 1:6-2:9

General Question

What stood out to you in the sermon?

Sermon Point

In worship, not everything that is offered to God is accepted by God.

Scripture Reference:

Reference: Malachi 1:6-8; Gen 4:3-7; Isa 1:11-17

Question for Reflection:

God rejects offerings that cost the people very little. What are some modern-day “leftover” offerings we might bring to God; and why do you think God takes those seriously?

Sermon Point

Even in this rebuke, God’s heart is not rejection but an invitation: “Return to Me.”

Scripture Reference:

Malachi 3:6-7; Joel 2:12-13; Luke 15:17-24

Question for Reflection:

Compare God’s invitation in Joel 2 with the father’s response in Luke 15. How do these passages reshape the way we view repentance not as a punishment, but as an invitation?

Sermon Point

God desires relationship, not ritual.

Scripture Reference:

Hosea 6:6; Matt 15:7-9, John 4:23-24

Question for Reflection:

God desires “steadfast love” rather than sacrifice. How can religious routines quietly replace genuine relationship, and how do we guard against that?
